Md. man stranded in West River treated for hypothermia

WASHINGTON (WTOP) — A man is in the hospital with hypothermia after he was stranded for hours in the West River in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Wednesday night.

The 44-year old man, from Shady Side, was taken aboard and transferred to another boat that took him to shore, Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thompson said.

Police said the man’s body temperature was around 82 degrees; hypothermia happens when body temperature drops below 95 degrees.

The man is being treated at the Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Police said water temperatures remain dangerously low at around 50 degrees.

There have been four boating deaths so far this year, nearly half of last year’s total, police said.
